an abundance mindset experiment for these BAD TIMES
hi!! it’s weird out there (*gestures widely to everything/nothing in particular), so I want to try something I’m hoping could help some readers…myself included!
friends tend to hit me up for help since I’m a connector-type with a relatively large network. (what can I say, I love ppl!) and I’m always down to help if I’m able, whether it’s asking a professional contact to be a friend’s referral or trying to pull through on a favor for a film project or whatever.
but with times being tough (so few jobs/opps, so many layoffs, everything’s expensive, allergies are terrible, etc), the anxiety and panic of staying afloat can overwhelm our sound judgment. (←I’m talking about me and my sound judgment, btw.)
if I’m being honest, lately I’ve been a victim of feeling, I’m sorry but don’t know how to help you bc I don’t know how to help myself!!!!
which, yuck! I really had to reframe my thinking over the past few weeks. not only is this sentiment untrue, but it goes against my abundance mindset. and even though it feels like doomsday out there, I KNOW there are plenty of resources and goodwill to go around, even if they seem harder to find right now.
which is why I’m putting this out into the universe (the universe being this newsletter): if YOU have a resource to share that is essentially free for you but could tremendously help a fellow reader, please write me back and lmk what it is!!! if I get enough good responses, I’ll compile a list of what readers can offer each other (everyone will be anon) but I can put people in touch for specific requests/asks.
for instance, if anyone ever needs access to a paywalled nyt or nymag or new yorker article (wow embarrassing, I only read new york-centric publications), email me anytime and I’ll send you a pdf of it. or if anyone needs light copy help (for personal projects only), email me anytime and I’ll try to help you out as long as there’s no hard deadline and the ask is direct and reasonable. I’m also decent with jewelry repair! if anyone needs help fixing a necklace or something, email me and I’m happy to take a look. you understand.
so now, if only you feel like participating, pls get in touch! here are things that will be especially helpful to others right now, if you’re able to offer:
a job referral, especially if you work at one of those large companies where: 1. you can generate a special referral link; or 2. it’s ok with you for someone to drop your name into one of those referral fields on an application form
discounts to whatever you can get discounts for (bc life’s expensive)
any pro bono services
a quick chat or zoom call with someone looking for career advice (or even a pep talk) in the industry you’re in
also, as a final note, I’m still doing personal wardrobe styling/organizing, for anyone interested! I will offer a sliding scale since these take up a lot of time, but I enjoy these sessions immensely. a few testimonials:
^^ well, you can’t get ‘em all.
TIL NEXT TIME!!!!!!
